The 129th Canton Fair: A Cloud Feast of Made-in-China

From April 15 to 24, the 129th China Import and Export Fair (hereinafter referred to as the "Canton Fair") was held. Xu Bing, the spokesperson of the Canton Fair and Deputy Director of the China Foreign Trade Centre, stated that this session of the Canton Fair has solidly organized its exhibition efforts to create a cloud feast of Made-in-China products.

To coordinate COVID-19 prevention and control with economic development, the Canton Fair went online for the third time, hosting a 10-day virtual exhibition. The official Canton Fair website set up 50 exhibition sections for 16 major product categories, with a total of approximately 60,000 booths. According to reports, nearly 26,000 domestic and overseas enterprises participated in this session, uploading over 2.7 million products—an increase of 230,000 compared to the previous session—setting a new record for the number of exhibited items. A large number of new products, smart products, and "self-developed, self-branded, self-marketed, and high-value-added" products made their appearances, including about 820,000 new products.

According to reports, not only did the number of exhibited products increase, but the exhibition formats also showed innovative trends. This session continuously improved the online platform to enhance theexperience for all parties, better achieving the goals of "easy access, easy discovery, and easy negotiation." Exhibiting enterprises showcased their offerings through images, videos, 3D, VR, and other multimedia formats, presenting a feast of Chinese manufacturing and Chinese innovation to global buyers.

To help rural enterprises explore international markets and consolidate and expand the achievements of poverty alleviation, this year's Canton Fair set up a "Rural Revitalization" zone, providing a "zero-threshold, zero-cost" trade platform for 1,160 enterprises from poverty-alleviated regions across 49 exhibition sections. Meanwhile, this session continued to waive exhibition fees for enterprises and did not charge any fees to cross-border e-commerce platforms participating in simultaneous events, taking practical measures to help enterprises tap into markets.

Xu Bing stated that the Canton Fair should better leverage its role as a comprehensive platform for opening-up, utilize both domestic and international markets and resources at a higher level, and make new and greater contributions to promoting the development of China's open economy and fostering an open world economy.
